The activity of this Research Unit comprises three areas of study. Firstly, they work in the applications of Fuzzy Logic in the development of reasoning methods (conjectures, hypotheses and consequences). A second are is the extraction and representation of knowledge with fuzzy system modelling, focusing in finding a good balance between accuracy and interpretability. The third area of interest is the formalization of natural language.

Although these investigations are part of the so-called frontier research, they don’t lose touch with reality, as they involve the generation of mathematical models of reasoning and language modelling. The potential applications of these models range from medical diagnosis to their use as support tools to industrial production processes. For example, this Research Unit is currently working in the development of an autonomous irrigation system that optimizes the use of water.
