The Jury of the Prize, during the meeting held in Oviedo past September, decided to distinguish Prof. Kalyanmoy Deb (Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur) as the winner of the Fifth Edition of the Cajastur Mamdani Prize for Soft Computing, in consideration of his contributions to the development and application of Evolutionary Multi-objective Optimization.

Prof. Kalyanmoy Deb was awarded the Fifth Cajastur Mamdani Prize for Soft Computing during a public ceremony held on December the first, at the Research Building in Miéres.

The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Felipe Fernández, Director General of Cajastur, taking also part Mr. Jesús Alcalde, President of the Foundation for the Advancement of Soft Computing and Dr. Luis Magdalena, Director General of the ECSC. After receiving the prize, the winner Prof. Kalyanmoy Deb, gave a conference about “Evolution's Niche in Multi-Criterion Problem Solving”
