Imagen Biography:
Sergio Guadarrama graduated with honors with a B.Sc. degree in Computer Science in 2000, gained the Master's degree in 2002 and the PhD’s degree (Artificial Intelligence) in 2007, from the Technical University of Madrid. He obtained a Research grant for 6 moths from the Technical University of Madrid and the European Union, and a 4 years PhD. Fellowship from the Education Department of Spain.

During 2003-2004, he spent one year at the University of California, Berkeley, where he wrote a part of his PhD. thesis, and collaborated with Prof. Lotfi Zadeh. After that he was a Graduate Student Instructor at the Rey Juan Carlos University (2004-2005) and at the Technical University of Madrid (2005-2006), and a Lecturer (2006-2007) in the European Master in Computational Logic at Technical University of Madrid.

He has published 8 papers in international journals, 7 book chapters and more than 20 papers in peer-review conferences. He has participated in the organization of several international conferences and seminar, he has organized special sessions, and has participated in several research projects, funded by European Union, Spanish Government, Madrid Regional Government and Castilla la Mancha Regional Government.

In recognition for his work, he has received: the "Best Doctoral Dissertation Award" in Computer Science by the Technical University of Madrid, and the "Juan de la Cierva" Grant, as one the top 10 most promising young researchers in Computer Science by the Spanish Department of Science and Innovation.

His main research focus is in Computing with Words, Actions and Perceptions (CW-AP), area in which he is currently developing the project "Smart-Bees: Learning Language in Semi-Supervised Environments". Since November 2007, he is a "Juan de la Cierva" Researcher in the Fundamentals of Soft-Computing Unit at the European Centre for Soft-Computing.
